Pictoplasma Character Walk / Joumi ^w^

Joumi fue otro de los artistas que participó en Pictoplasma. Montó una instalación en una galería de cuyo nombre no logro acordarme que consistía en una pantalla, un proyector y una especie de mando gigante de Playstation (con el triángulo, cuadrado, círculo y flechas) colocado en el suelo y que se manejaba con los pies. Dependiendo del botón pulsado aparecían en la pantalla distintas figuras geométricas a la vez que ritmos techno, con lo que cada uno podía crear su propio personaje y música. Muy divertido!

Joumi was another of the artists being part of Pictoplasma. He build up an installation consisting of a big screen, a beamer and a sort of Playstation joystick (with triangle, square, circle and arrows) that was laying in the floor and so being played with the feet. The screen displayed the different geometrical figures depending on the buttons pushed, as well as techno rythms, so everyone could create their own character and music. Big fun!

Pictoplasma Character walk 2009 / TADO ^w^

La parejita inglesa Tado participó en Pictoplasma con su Private Panda Club, un  pequeño bar nocturno en el Less rain basement de Berlín, con un panda-stripper como estrella principal. Rojo, cute y marranete :)

English couple Tado added the cutest touch to Pictoplasma with their Private Panda Club, a little night club located in Less rain basement Berlin, with a smiling stripper panda as the main star. Red, sweet and spicy :)

Kidrobot no se cansa de sacar muñecos a destajo, y eso es siempre bueno. Deben tener una fábrica con una chimenea enorme por la que salen a propulsión y en cantidades escandalosas... Ahora es el turno del diseñador gráfico Travis Cain, cuya colección de vinilitos explica que los opuestos se atraen y que  amor y dolor van siempre asociados. Con lo primero estoy de acuerdo pero con lo segundo, Travis, hijo, esperemos que no sea así, que el amor es muy muy bonito, como tus figuritas sufridoras... Feliz lunes!

Kidrobot never gets tired of making toys, and that´s always good :) Now it´s the turn of graphic designer Travis Cain, whose vynil collection explains that opposites attrackt and that love and pain are always connected. I agree with the first thing but with the second one Travis, I really hope it´s not like that (at least not always); love is very very beautiful and nice, just like your sweet characters... Videoclip maravilloso de una de mis canciones preferidas últimamente, "Beggin" del gran Frankie Valli. Atención a la sincronización, los zapatos de cordones con calcetines, los caniches bordados en las faldas y esos tonos pastel... Aunque de todo, me quedo con la pareja de asiáticos, y es que cómo gustan los chicos que bailan bien... Aunque los DJ tampoco tienen desperdicio :)

A very good video of one of my favourite songs so lately, "Beggin" from great Frankie Valli. Pay attention to the synchronization, those lace shoes with socks, the poodles embroidered on the skirts and the pastel tones... Still, from all of it I´d take the asian pair dancing... Isn´t it great when boys dance so good? The DJ´s aren´t bad either... :)

Tokidoki se supera con Kitty ^w

El gran Tokidoki, italiano con 8 brazos y poderes Jedi para dibujar cientos y miles de muñecos que te roban el coraçao, prosigue su colaboración con Hello Kitty. Primero la vistió de cactus y ahora la ha convertido en un donut y la ha bautizado con el nombre de Hello Kitty Donuttera (el italiano suena siempre muy gracioso), toma ya. No suelo postear sobre la Kitty pues fui una yonqui durante más de 20 años y lo mío me ha costado quitarme, pero es que esta me parece tan  mona que había que ponerla... Al igual que en el primer tándem Tokidoki/Hello Kitty, hay bolsitos, llaveros y chuches varias de edición limitada y difícilisimas de encontrar en Europa. Para las que no se puedan resistir, siempre pueden recurrir a Ebay.

The great Tokidoki, an italian with 8 arms and Jedi powers for creating hundreds and thousands of characters that will steal your heart, continues his collab with Hello Kitty. He dressed her as a cactus first and now he turned her into a doughnut and called her Hello Kitty Donuttera (italian always sounds so nice!). I don´t use to post about Hello Kitty, as I´ve been a junkie for over 20 years and it wasn´t easy to quit, but this one is so cute that I had to talk about it... As in the first tandem Tokidoki/Hello Kitty, there´s bags, keychains and other sweets available in limited edition. Quite hard to find in Europe, the ones that can´t resist it can always have a look on Ebay...

The age of feminine drawing, un libro que me acaban de regalar y que es de los más bonitos que he visto últimamente. En él aparece la visión e interpretación de la mujer de artistas de todo el mundo, y ninguno de ellos tiene desperdicio. Se encuentran trabajos de Audrey Kawasaki, Shinjuko, Stina Persson, Ai Yamaguchi, Izuru Aminaka y Catalina Estrada entre muchos otros... Se mezclan estilos y técnicas de todo tipo, y tanto la edición (el libro tiene distintos tipos de papel, además de una pequeña agenda con los datos de todos los artistas) como el contenido son tan bonitos que te pasarías horas, días y semanas mirándolo. Muy, muy , muy recomendado para amantes del arte, la ilustración y la moda.

The age of feminine drawing, a book I just got as a present and wich is one of the most beautiful I´ve seen so lately. It collects the vision and interpretation of woman from contemporary artists around the world, and all of them are really amazing. You can find works from Audrey Kawasaki, Shinjuko, Stina Persson, Ai Yamaguchi, Izuru Aminaka and Catalina Estrada between many others... Styles and techniques of all types mix together and the edition (the book has different types of paper and a small agenda with all the artists´data) as well as the content are so darn beautiful that you could spend hours, days and weeks diving into it. Very recommended for art, illustration and fashion lovers.

Amanda Visell, ilustradora de la cual me he enamorado de sus pinturas retro súperdivertidas y figuras de madera. Me encantan en concreto sus bebés redonditos que pinta en situaciones surrealistas y que ponen cara de "Pero qué he hecho yo para merecer esto?!"... Si no me equivoco, ha trabajado para Disney en diseño de personajes y fondos. Tiene un interesante blog que comparte con su amiga Michelle Valigura, creadora de muñecos y figuras increíbles.

Amanda Visell, an illustrator I´m pretty in love with her retro paintings that make you smile and wood figures. I personally like the rounded babies with diapers looking so concerned :)... If I´m not mistaken, she has done works for Disney. She also runs  an interesting blog shared with her friend Michelle Valigura, an amazing toy maker.

Cheburashka es amor ^w^

Aquí os dejo un vídeo de Cheburashka, con el que se me cae la lagrimilla cada vez que lo veo y oigo al señor Cocodrilo cantar en ruso... Es melancólico, tierno, súperdulce. Me comía a besos a Cheburashka ahí en el tren sentadito con esa carita de bueno... Gracias a Mónica por el link!

Here´s a video of Cheburashka that makes tears come out my eyes everytime I see it and listen to Mr. Crocodile´s  russian song... It´s tender, melancholic and super sweet. I love Cheburashka sitting on the train with that good guy face... Thanks to Mónica for the link!

Tarina x Kidrobot ^w^

Tarina Tarantino, la mujer de pelo magenta que diseña joyas como caramelos para las señoritas "in" de Hollywood (véanse sus colecciones Hello Kitty, Barbie y Alicia en el país de las maravillas), ha trasladado el espíritu de Kidrobot a anillos, pendientes y colgantes. Incluso se venden en "blind box"! Como gran amante y coleccionista de Kidrobot que soy, y fan del glamour algo cursi y petardillo de Tarina, la colección no puede más que gustarme ^__^

Tarina Tarantino, the magenta-haired woman that designs jewels looking like candies (refer to her Hello Kitty, Barbie and Alice in Wonderland previous collections) for the "in" Hollywood ladies, has turned Kidrobot´s spirit into rings, earrings, pendants, etc... They´re even sold in blind boxes! As a Kidrobot lover and collector and fan of Tarina´s "too sugar" yet cool accessories, I just can adore the collection.

Brilliant animation from Eric Lerner. I watched it for the first time last year in Berlin´s animation festival "Pictoplasma". I love Mr. Fortune and his little white pal ^____^ They make your day! Happy tuesday!
